I've 1.25" bolts that I couldn't budge with a 6ft cheater pipe and turn them out with a 1/2" breaker bar after quenching. Then immediatly quench with a steady stream of cold water ( like from a garden hose ) and continue quenching until it is cool enough to touch. ![]() Heat the bolt red hot and I mean cherry red. We have had great success with heat then cold. Posted 23:52 (#1971922 - in reply to #1971743) Subject: Re: how to get roller bolts out of dozer frame? Do yourself or whoever might wrench on that thing again and put some white lead on the new bolts before you put them into the frame rail! Then a few impacts in the tighten direction and then hopefully off in one piece. We have always heated them and then sprayed water on them. Sounds like it may require overhead welding in this situation, but that may actually get heat further into the bolt. They will actually be tighter when hot, but hopefully shrink and loosen up when they're completely cool. Let them cool good before trying to take them out. This would probably be the point to weld nuts on them, as the heat would be where it needs to be, on the threads of the bolt. If they're breakin' off anyway you've got nothin' to lose. I had good results, but never a bolt as big as you are talking about. I have tried it on exhaust manifold bolts. He say's to heat the bolt up and the candle wax will draw into the threads like sweating a fitting. I sure am hoping you guys have some solutions! Takes about an hour or more per bolt! Someone please tell me a secret, there's got to be an easier way, plus we have several more rollers to replace, with four bolts per roller! Now mind you these aren't any little bolts, these are about 7/8 inch bolts grade 8 and we are working upside down to try and drill and extract. ![]() So dropped two rollers now, and have the old bolts, now studs sticking down, welded nuts on the old bolt studs, let em cool good, then heated the dozer frame around the bolts real good, and put the impact back on em, and the studs twisted off at the frame! So we have 8 bolts to drill out of the frame and hopefully drill em center and take an ease out to get the old bolts out without ruining the threads. So get the one inch gun, put it on the next ones, twisted the heads off. Wouldn't break em loose so put long breaker bar on em, twisted the heads off. pulled tracks off, gonna replace rollers. But maybe there are some new tricks I'm not aware of?Ģ002 komatsu d61 pc-12 dozer. we've done tons and tons a mechanic work, rarely found a bolt we can't get out. ![]() Posted 22:36 (#1971743) Subject: how to get roller bolts out of dozer frame?įirst.
